Mr. Deslauriers also fought for a Canadian man called Régent Boily in front of the United Nations Committee Against Torture (CAT) in Geneva. Mr. Boily was extradited from Canada to Mexico after a legal battle all the way up to the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. Deslauriers then brought to the attention of the CAT Mr. Boily’s extradition by Canada to Mexico and argued that there was a high risk of torture of doing so. The CAT rendered a decision in 2011, after a 4 years battle, declaring the extradition illegal and ordering the compensation of Mr. Boily. After 6 long years, Mr. Boily was finally transferred back to Canada. Mr. Deslauriers is now assisting Mr. Boily in suing Canada in front of the Federal Court for it’s lack of monitoring after his extradition leading to him being badly tortured by Mexican authorities.
